Jewish College Students on Long Island Struggle to Balance School and the Holidays

Hofstra University has joined other Long Island universities in adopting a secular calendar. Jewish students at universities across Long Island have struggled to balance class and observing Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in October. Some students find it unfair that the school does not officially give off for these two important holidays in the Jewish faith.

“When Christians get off for Christmas,” began Robyn Beeber, vice president of LIU Post Hillel, “it’s like, well why don’t we get off for our important holidays too?”
